TREATMENTS IN PERIODONTICS

Mucogingival surgery

There are surgical procedures that correct some gum problems and create functional and esthetic conditions. Some patients have a very thin gum, this condition promotes gum recession that is cause of some aesthetic problems for the patient and in many cases this recession can progress dangerously for the teeth health

A NARROW MARGIN OF ATTACHED GUM   CAN BE THE CAUSE OF A SEVERE RECESSION

THERE ARE SOME GRAFTS THAT CORRECT    THE RECESSION AND THE LACK OF THE GUM

Crown lenghtening

A very common situation is a tooth fracture, especially in the crown; it is a problem when the fracture reaches the space beneath the gum for any kind of rehabilitation, it is necessary to uncover the margin of the tooth in order to adjust correctly the new crown or filling. It is the same case when caries is present.  The name of the procedure is crown lengthening and is no other thing that the replacement of the gum level in order to uncover a fracture or a decay.
Gingivoplasty means a re-contour of the gum margins in order to create harmonic and aesthetic conditions.

Bone grafts

Bone loss is one of the features of periodontitis. This loss can be mild, moderate or severe; although there are new and very successful regenerative procedures, we cannot have again the former 100%natural conditions. Nevertheless, with these bone grafts we can gain part of the bone that have been lost and create healthy and functional conditions. There is a concept named Guided Tissue Regeneration, it is a procedure that uses membranes that cover the zone without bone and, besides the grafts, achieves amazing results.

Treatment of Hipersensivity

There are many patients that refer pain when they take cold or hat beverages or any sweet meal. This is regarded to a very common erosion of the tooth, just besides de gum and the problem is that the dentine (the tissue inside any tooth) is exposed and is very sensitive because it has some small tubules that are connected directed to the pulp (nerve). The treatment is the application of some substances that remineralize this dentine and obliterate these tubules. The dentist has to apply these substances, but there are also some tooth pastes and rinses that can help to deal with this very common problem. In almost all the cases the problem is controlled in just two or three sessions

Bad breath or Halitosis

Patients with Periodontal disease have bad breath very frequently, this is known scientifically as Halitosis; this is regarded to bacteria and pus inside the periodontal pockets. The treatment for this problem is the same that the one used for periodontitis, once the pocket is eliminated there is no more bacteria or their products and the bad breath related to periodontitis is totally controlled. In the most of the cases, Halitosis is caused by bacteria on the posterior zone of the tongue, these bacteria produce sulfur that contributes mainly to this bad odor; this is very easy to treat, the patient has to use a tongue cleaner to take out once or twice a day the most of these bacteria, and the problem would be totally controlled.
